Over the many years of reading, I have realized that I retain more information when listening to podcasts as opposed to reading books or articles. As a result, whether I can, I opt for podcasts.
Last week, as I listened to one of my favorite podcasts: How I Built This with Guy Raz From NPR, I heard a very interested story about Michael Sorrentino, a veteran television news producer who patented the idea of the eyepatch iPhone Case-read more here.
To me, his idea of combining a case with a lens protector and lense cleaner wasn’t an exceptional one, it was actually quite simple. What was impressive to me is the fact that eventhough it was a simple idea (that none had thought to patent before!), he has been able to carve out a niche for myself by patenting this concept. He now has a mote that none can touch.
Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett of big fans of moats. As they said it best during their latest question and answer period at Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting, moats take many forms, ranging from parents to a massive production line for converting water and sugar to relatively expensive soda. Moats come in lots of different sizes as shapes, what is your personal moat and what your buisness’s moat?
