Was JK Rowling a genius or a hard worker? Was Steve Jobs a genius or an unrelenting perfectionist? Was Picasso an artistic genius or an art enthusiast with unwavering persistence? Did Beethoven play the piano to the Pope at the age of 3 or did he create his legacy because his father forced him to practice three hours a day?
The Western culture romanticized the lives of heroes around us to because we like those stories more. Who wants to hear about the fact that JK Rowling was always reading because she locked herself up in a room as her parents fought? Rather, we want to hear about how Paul McCartney dreamt up one of the most famous songs of all time- Yesterday.
To improve, we must stop obsessing about perfection and start “shipping” as Seth Godin puts it. This blog has proven this to me personally. Now that I try to blog everyday, I brain is subconsciously looking for ways to tease out insights from what I experience everyday.
The above insights were from Seth Godin’s latest Podcast – Akimo and The Investor’s Podcast interview with the incredible insightful Alleen Gannett.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!
