We have heard about the new methods of getting rich and becoming successful- dream of it/paint it/imagine it/collage it and it will happen.
As an engineer and a subscriber to the scientific method, I used to think that stuff is all mumbo-jumbo-wishful-thinking crap scumbags were teaching the public and charging handsomely for.
I used to think that only people who were down on their luck/broke/unemployed/ruined would be so desperate as to give this stuff a try.
Many many many moons later, I was meditating using the Breathe app on my commute and I decided to be adventurous and try a new meditation routine under the “strengthen your resilience” section called “Cause and Effect”. Even though I had listened to this mediation before, that day I “prepared” for a lightbulb moment.
The meditation gently guides and simply says: if you plant an apple seed, you should expect an apple tree, and therefore if you plant another say, you cannot expect an apple tree.
So simple, but yet so enlightening. I believe our thoughts act the say way.
If you are constantly thinking about:
- how annoying your co-worker is
- how miserable your job is
- how poor your are
- how stupid you are
- how incompetent you are
- etc. (I’m sure for many, the list goes on and on and on…)
Then you are planting the seeds of misery, depression, anxiety and poor health.
On the other hand, if you are thinking about and thankful for the:
- good health that you possess,
- the love, comfort, and joy of interacting with you family,
- affordable and reliable access to clean drinking water, hot water, refrigeration, electricity,…
- roads, highways, cars, airports,…
- ability to have a warm and nutritious meal,
Then you are planting the seeds of happiness, gratutite, satisfaction, and joy.
I would argue that even if you are feeling shitty and down on your luck, you should have positive thoughts and be thankful for what you have.
If you don’t believe me, try it out with a person that annoys you. Right now, every time you think about them, you suddenly think about their disgusting and annoying characteristics, this in turn changes your body language, tone and work selection when you are dealing with this person, they in turn will pick up on this negative energy (consciously or subconsciously) and respond to you in kind. This starts a self-perpetuating negative cycle. Conversely, if you think positive thoughts about them and commend them for the impressive qualities, your interaction, and in their their interaction will change. You will see a change and you will see results.
Long story short: the universe is a mirror, if you want positive energy, then radiate positivity!
